I look into the event viewer and saw the following even "Lync Server Service Startup Pending as Registrar BackEnd is not yet Available. However your first log message indicates that the edge server cannot communicate with the local xds database (which is actually the configuration database) so I would assume that something went wrong If the problem would have been with the keep alive and the chnages I made that you instructed, then after changing it back the error would have returned.
